Fantastic presentations… Black History Month…

An inspiring message “Segregated Medicine: African-American Physicians in Augusta, 1902-1952,” was delivered at the Church of the Good Shepard in Augusta on Tuesday. Dr. Leslie J. Pollard, Retired Calloway Professor of History at Paine College and Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at MCG, gave this compelling and insightful talk about the history and significant impact of African-American physicians in our city. Many thanks to Dr. Nesbit for his efforts in organizing GRU’s moving event, “At the Crossroads of Freedom and Equality: the Emancipation Proclamation and the March on Washington.” This was another wonderful tribute to these defining moments and individuals in our history. Many thanks as well to Dr. Guion for hosting and to Sheriff Roundtree and the terrific artists for their contributions.

Great news… Applications up AGAIN…

It is wonderful to hear that 87 percent of Georgia residents who applied to medical school this year applied to MCG and total applications were up for the second year in a row: 18 percent this year on top of a 10 percent increase last year. Please join us in congratulating Toni Baker on her promotion to Communications Director for our medical college. Toni, who has been with the university since 1985, has led the medical school’s public relations during her entire tenure.
