Leadership Development … Making Progress on Our Commitment …

This week, Ms. Kathi Becker – our leadership consultant – conducted a day-long leadership retreat. Additionally, Kathi has solicited input from many of our leaders in order to finalize the selection of enterprise-wide leadership competency clusters and to identify the training needs. Once this feedback is collected, the competencies will frame the design of a curriculum of intra-mural leadership development programs for staff, students, faculty and administrative leaders. Our thanks to Ms. Becker for her invaluable help in getting us started in the right direction. Thanks also to Dr. Gretchen Caughman, Mr. David Hefner, and Ms. Susan Norton for their leadership with development initiative.

Radiothon raises nearly $227,000 for CMC … Surpassing Last Years …

We are proud to share the news that the 12th Annual Cares for Kids Radiothon raised $227,000 ($65,000 more than last years) for the Children’s Medical Center. The radiothon is one of the CMC’s largest and most inspiring fundraisers and it’s a fun event as well. Funds raised from the pledges and donations help provide specialized care for children and families across the Southeast (http://www.flickr.com/photos/georgiahealth/8255673504/in/photostream).

Our Students … Showing Community Involvement … A Unique Approach …

Recently our students held a “No Shave November Beard Auction” which raised over $3200 to help fight prostate cancer as part of the project, Zero: The End of Prostate Cancer (www.zerocancer.org). Our thanks to Alex Olney and all the other students who participated in this great fund raiser. This year there were also students from Biomedical Sciences and Physical Therapy. Great job guys!

Tweet … Tweet … Tweet … Should You Rethink that Tweet?

Recently American Medical News published an article regarding online content which should give all of us pause, given a new trend toward medical school and residency programs taking into consideration applicants’ online activity (http://www.ama-assn.org/amednews/2012/11/26/prsj1127.htm). In fact, all of us need to be sensitive to information flow, especially with healthcare information. Social media outlets are becoming more and more a way of life and applicants to medical school and residency programs need to consider this before posting online.
